Apple offers glimpse at upcoming changes to iPhone software
Apple on Monday gave a glimpse at the software that powers more that 1 billion iPhones. It also launched two laptops that will be equipped with the company’s next generation microprocessor.
Apple spent the opening day of its annual developer conference promoting the next versions software for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, rather than the sleek devices that have made it a global technology leader and the world’s most valued company.
The next operating system for iPhone, iOS 16,, will overhaul the lock screen of the device and make minor improvements to the software. As iPhone owners hold onto their devices longer than ever before, software updates have become more important.
The iPhone lock screen will be one of the most noticeable iOS 16’se differences. The new software will be available as a free download this fall and will allow users anchor their favorite apps as small widgets to the lock screen.
The new software will allow the lock screen display live notifications, such as the status of an Uber ride that is on its way to pick-up a passenger. To reduce clutter on the screen, other authorized notifications will be sent from the bottom of your screen.
The iPhone’s messaging system has been redesigned so that messages can be edited after they have been sent, or canceled in full if the sender changes their mind. These options will only be available if both users are using Apple’s messaging app for sending text messages.
The Apple Pay service, which is part of the iPhone’s digital wallet, has a new financing option that is likely to be popular due to rising inflation rates. This option allows consumers to spread the cost of any Apple Pay purchase over four installments over a six-week period without additional fees. Similar financing is available through digital services like Affirm, whose stock prices plunged by more than 5 percent Monday after hearing about Apple Pay.
Many of the new features on Apple’s iPads and Macs will make it easier to sync with your iPhone, such as making video calls. These tools will allow more apps to run side-by-side to perform multiple tasks on one screen.
Helping users toggle between Apple devices is one of the reasons Apple began making Macs with the same chips that power the iPhone, iPad and iPod in late 2020..
Now Apple has put the next generation of its Mac chips in its two most popular laptops, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The company stated that the new chip will be available in stores by the end of next month. The MacBook Air will be available for $1 ,200, while the MacBook Pro will be available for $1 ,300..
The event took place at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters.
