Game Story: Wake Forest takes care of business in win over Boston College

Behind a six-touchdown day from quarterback Sam Hartman, Wake Forest rode to a comfortable 43-15 victory over Boston College. The redshirt junior completed 25 of 40 passes for 313 yards and five scores — the sixth TD came from a two-yard scramble into the end zone. Hartman stated after the game that “when we play well, it’s fun.” It’s much more enjoyable to execute at a high standard, as we have done for the past few weeks. I love to watch the celebrations of these guys from my chair. It’s amazing to see the joy on the faces of those guys Despite Hartman’s impressive stats, he’s not always in the same league as other top-tier college quarterbacks.

“He’s a really, really good quarterback,” Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson added. He doesn’t get the credit that he deserves, which I find funny. He was the second-team All ACC QB last year. He was the first-team quarterback and was drafted. Some people ranked him as the fifth-best quarterback of the ACC. That’s so disrespectful to what he’s doing and what he’s accomplished.”

“There’s not another quarterback in the country I would rather have,” Clawson continued. He is one of the most elite quarterbacks in the country, I believe. It’s amazing that he isn’t getting mentioned in the Heisman stuff. Take a look at his career and what this year has brought. Sam doesn’t care about anything. He wants to win .”

Now at Wake Forest, at 6-1, Wake Forest will be bowl eligible before November begins. Hartman stated that it was cool to be part of. “It’s trying to remind the young guys that this isn’t normal, it hasn’t always been like this.”

Regardless, Wake Forest is focused on bigger things now. Bowl eligibility is not the ultimate goal.

“It’s cool that you can see it now, if someone told you four years ago that you were going to be hoping someone in your conference loses so that you can go to the ACC Championship,” DE Rondell Bothroyd stated. “The standard is this now. Bowl eligibility is irrelevant to The dominant win over the Eagles was dominated by strong performances from the wide receiver room. Taylor Morin hauled in two TD grabs, and rising star Jahmal Banks led the way with 7 catches, 79 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Banks is now the sole leader in receiving touchdowns in ACC with 7.

” “It was a long journey,” Banks said. Banks said, “I came in like an sponge, ready to absorb all that information. I am grateful for all the talent that was given to me by A.T. [Perry] as well as Donavon Greene. The journey really humbled me and allowed me to go through the struggles to find things about myself that I didn’t know.”

Aside from a 61-yard touchdown pass to Zay Flowers, the Wake Forest defense was dominant throughout the game. The Deacs also sacked Phil Jurkovec twice, and forced two fumbles.

” I believe preparation is the most important thing,” Bothroyd stated. “This week, we stressed the importance of playing hard. Executing the game plan is what it really came down to — guys just playing their hearts out regardless of the opponent.”

The Deacs accomplished their main goal, which is the same every week — go 1-0. There could be something special in Winston-Salem if this team can keep their identity and take care of business.

” Banks stated that he believes this team is a legend. Banks stated, “That’s why that’s why we concentrate on that mindset. We are focused on the present. Don’t get caught up in the past, paradise is in the moment.”
