Javier Baez Helping Those Impacted by Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico
The Category 3 hurricane continues to affect various Caribbean islands. After two feet of rain this week, Puerto Rico was without power as of Tuesday morning.
President Joe Biden declared Hurricane Fiona a state of emergency on Sunday.
Puerto Rico’s Governor Pedro Pierluisi said “The damages that we are seeing are catastrophic,” via NBC News.
In response to the damage the U.S. territory already has seen, Baez wanted give back to his homeland. Baez, the Tigers’ star, announced on his Instagram Monday , that he would give away hot meals for those affected by the hurricane. The free food will be available at Baez’s Taquiza restaurant.
“I understand we’re going though something very difficult,” Baez stated via TMZ Sports . “I’m with you.”
The two-time All-Star will represent Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic next year for the second time. He helped the team earn a silver medal at the 2017 competition.
